Vitriol! Wit! Anarchy! Michelle Shocked has one of the sweetest voices since early Joan Baez; but Shocked isn’t p.c., she’s just right on. With more guts and conviction than your average Marine, Shocked also knows how to load a song with acerbic, sometimes scathing, observations. Her lyrics read better than most newspaper Op-Ed pages. Shocked, on the road for a month-long mini-tour, pulls her Winnebago into the Chestnut Cabaret’s lot on Saturday. She’s just finished recording, Arkansas Traveler, an album (as yet unreleased) that promises performance with Levon Helm and Garth Hudson of The Band, Pops Staples, Alison Krauss, Hothouse Flowers, and Taj Mahal. Tomorrow night, she’ll perform with the Bad Livers from Austin, Texas. See you there.
