'Kind Hearted' but Still Shocked

Since Michelle Shocked first came to public attention with a tape of raw songs that according to legend were recorded around a campfire, it’s fitting that her latest release, Kind Hearted Woman, is billed as another set of raw songs about the trials and troubles of life.

Shocked has had a few of her own, despite her recording success over the last eight years. She spent some of that time breaking loose from her first recording contract, for instance.

When she did, this is what resulted: something of a parallel to Bruce Springsteen’s Ghost of Tom Joad CD. For those who want to hear it all come down live, she’s playing tomorrow night at 8 at Irving Plaza, 17 Irving Place, Call (212) 777-6800.
