Double-bill of the Year

DOUBLE-BILL OF THE YEAR AWARD (SEMI-FOLK): Billy Bragg and Michelle Shocked. She sang, “I’m a little bit country.” He sang, “I’m a little bit rock ‘n’ roll.” Both delivered a potent dose of personal and world politics at the Opera House. Shocked was more intimate, charming in a dangerous sort of way; Bragg was, as always, the romantic-cum-rabble-rouser with enough sense to poke fun at all the appropriate junctures.
